What phone cards do people use to phone home, those Nawras top-up cards? They go quite quickly when chatting to mum on a Sunday. |

Depending on where you want to phone, a RIng Asia card will cost 3 rials and will give you hours of phone time from some, not all, internet cafes. |

Thank you. I have an internet connection at home, can I use it there?
In a similar vein (sp), does anyone know what the code is for texting someone in the United States? I think it's +1, correct? |

You probably can, IF you can download the programme that links you into the Ring Asia network.
Theoretically there should be no problem with this, but there might be a fee for that service. |

If you have an internet connection, why not try VBuzzer? Now that Skype has been blocked by Omantel this new VOIP claims to work in Oman and it does!
I have been using it for quite a while, both VOIP and to mobile/landlines, it works, simple as that. Also, the rates are cheaper that Omantel and/or Skype!

Thanks Neil, I think it sounds like a bit too much trouble to download the software and I don't really want to use an internet cafe. Thanks for your advice though. It sounds like VBuzzer might be better for me. Thanks Duffy, I'll give it a go. |
