Anyone familiar with this crowd? 7000 for 25hrs reasonable? Is 2000rmb/mth(housing allowance) enough for a basic 1 person apartment/studio? I've no idea if there is suitable accommodation near it or indeed, where it is. Thanks.

Even though our Chinese counterparts resent us for it, I'd never accept a job that required me to teach 25 hours a week.
Teaching 5 different levels of students requires huge amounts of preparation - in my case.

I don't know about their GZ operations, but on a general level they, as employers, have a better reputation than EF but not as good as wall street.
25 is about as heavy as you would want to get I guess. That's full time work (40 - 50 hours per week) if you plan your lessons properly, but you probably won't have to if you want to kick back a little. Good packages in China can either allow you to save something or give you a lot of free time. This one will do neither, really. Still, if you're relatively new to all this and want to build up your experience or whatever then it's probably not so bad.. almost 10k per month, and you'll probably enjoy your time off.
I have a friend who rents an apartment in Tianhe, which is one of the more expensive districts in GZ, for about 2000 per month. It's a studio in a centrally located modern building and he says it's nice, although the lift only works half of the time. Of all my foreign friends, that's the cheapest apartment that I know of.
However, I think you would find something. There are plenty of 'B list' buildings around - not brand spanking new, and often clad in that unattractive smog-stained tiling, but perfectly nice inside. |

One thing you will want to find out is if you are required to do the office hours. Every Web is different that way. Some Web centers don't care if you go out between classes, others insist that you remain in the office. The GZ center pays less than some other Web centers. I'm not sure if you were looking at Web or looking for jobs in GZ. If the GZ center insists on office hours then 25 teaching hours plus office hours is alot for a salary of 7000 RMB. |

Iv worked at Web in GZ. Its a great place to work. However, dont expect any help with visas. Office hours are not required, when you're not teaching you're pretty much free to do whatever.
Also, finding a nice apartment for 2000 is not a problem. I pay 1800/month from my modern, new, highrise--shoebox apartment in Tainhe, Zhujiang New Town.
However, if you want to look in other areas i.e. Panyu, Haizhu ect; 2000rmb will get you a large apartment. |
