Does anyone have any info about this uni? the area?, etc? My brother's going to be studying there next semester. Any idea how they treat exchange students? I mean do they have classes with fellow gringos or Ecuadorians? |

I studied abroad there for a semester a few years ago. I absolutely loved it! The university is located in Cumbaya, which is right outside of Quito. For my program, exchange students lived in Quito and took the public bus to the university. Exchange students are treated very well at USFQ. The international student office has an orientation and is available throughout the semester to help students. The program at USFQ is total immersion; I had classes with Ecuadorians. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. |

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your info. So you mean that you take regular uni classes with Ecuadorians? How much did your Spanish improve? |

Yes, I took regular classes- it was just like if I'd been a student at USFQ. My Spanish improved tremendously, due to my classes and living with a host family. |

It's a ritzy, upscale university. Immersion for exchange students is pretty complete.
English teaching at USFQ is fairly...ahem...average. Which means that a lot of classmates may not speak English, which is in your brothers favor.
They tend to be rich kids, though- so many DO speak English. (Cause of all the vacations to the US etc.)
When's the bro arriving? Several people I know have kids or family members are at USFQ, and a prof there is a good friend of mine...
best,
Justin |

Wow, better than what I got. All classes with gringos, Americans from my programme, the only class I had with Spaniards was ESL
He takes an oline placement course in June, doesn't know when he arrives, Aug or Sept. I've got a feeling he'll be sick for a while with the altittued. I'd like to visit him, try out my new Peruvian passport, but if all goes well, I'll be in China in August.
ON another note, I'm hoping the beautiful Ecuadorian girls will lure him away from his less than all American girlfriend who he has now.- |
