If I were to consider getting a teaching job in Vietnam, what is the best way to go about this? Applying online, doing phone interviews and hope for the best? Fly over there and go job-hunting? I have a friend who found a job in Thailand the former way, and she ended up with fairly s***ty living conditions, working for some sketchy people.
Also, I'll admit the biggest, perhaps single thing that's been keeping me from considering southeast asia (mainly thailand and vietnam) is the climate. I typically do not like hot and humid weather. Maybe this is a stupid question, but is air conditioning......common in VN, at least the big cities? And how does Hanoi compare to a city like Bangkok? Is Hanoi dirty? Polluted?
Also, why do most people seem to talk about teaching in Hanoi? What about Saigon?
Sorry if these are "newbish" questions but there weren't really any threads with basic general info like this. |

Hanoi and Saigon are the largest cities, as I think you know. Most jobs are at these locations.
There are a lot more teachers here and competition for hours has increased a lot in the last six months. We on the ground here, believe it's because of the world economic crisis. People are not returning to the native countries, and at the same time people are arriving.
Not being negative, but make sure you are ready and willing to be flexible here.
Best of luck. |
