You probably worked out the English langauge front page? There's a tab on the top right-hand side of the page, or go to;
http://www.iium.edu.mo/index.php?lang=en
Looks like a Christian school. It says "competitive" for salary, which of course means "bad".
Looks like a new school.
Here's what the fron page says.

I honestly can't provide you with much information, but I can say that it IS an internationally recognized university, as it is listed in the International Association of Universities' database (the name is given in Portuguese):
http://www.unesco.org/iau/onlinedatabases/list_data/c-nw.html#China_-_Macao_SAR
I would have to say that "competitive salary" does not always mean "low salary"; a lot of the top universities out there will say "competitive salary" instead of giving an actual figure or range...but then again, you won't really know until you enquire. |

Most people who have applied for the post of ESL Instructor there have been invited in to attend an interview and to give a 'demo lesson', for the post of Portuguese Language Instructor.
Pay in Macau, especially at the few tertiary institutions there, is really quite very low, even by the standards of HK universities. Over the last few years many people I know of who were previously working at universities in HK but who have left to become NETs with the EDB or VTC. They earn twice or even thrice as much now, and get housing allowance, unlike at university.
I don't fully understand what is happening to uni posts in HK, but there seems to be a concerted effort on the past of tertiary institutions to reduce pay to a level that only attracts local, Cantonese-speaking kids who are just a few years older than the final year students, with local qualifications, and who still live at home with their mummies and daddies. |
