I have been contributing towards a local pension since my first school job and have more than 4,000 days racked up towards the minimum required of 5,500. I understand that recent reforms have moved the retirement age up to 58 for females and 60 for males. My question is does anyone know what the minimum payment is for teachers who have reached the minimum critera?
Does anyone else on this forum pay into a pension, local or otherwise? |

Well I pay pension and have transferred my Canada cotributions over to Turkey and have till 2013 now to claim Turkish pension if I want. Does your country have a pension agreement with Turkey? Maybe you can transfer your contributions here over there.
cheers

Something else to add to the mix. I have recently heard that employers are legally obliged to pay an employee an amount of compensation/ severance, known as tazminat in Turkish.
The amount is calculated on the number of years worked in a specfic establishment, a month's salary per year is the usual amount. I wonder if this only applies to Turkish nationals or can anyone with a decent term of employment in the same place get the same consideration?
Does anyone on this forum have any idea about how to obtain the necessary information on this issue? |

| I recently witnessed a co-worker getting the sack and received the compensation too.. So.. I think it does apply to everyone that works legally.. |

Thanks T.E, that reinforces what I already believe, an employer is not going to terminate your employment if he has to pay you tazminat, they would rather you resigned, that way they don't have to pay. I think a lot more people would think twice about jumping ship esp if they have worked at a place more than 5 years.
I would be interested to know the full story about your co-worker T.E. perhaps you can pm me if it would be easier. |

To qualify for the tazminat (severance pay) you have to be working legally. That means you have a work permit and your institution is paying your SSK payments.
Another thing to be aware of is that they might be paying your contributions but not the full amount, only the 'official' amount- usually minimum wage. This is a tax dodge for them and the result of this for you is that any tazminat or pension you may get will not be the amount you should be getting.... |

| I have actually written to the labour minister on this subject, as yet no reply. It is also worth mentioning that at this moment in time, Turkey has yet to enforce labour laws which protect ALL workers who are dismissed from their gainful employment. Apparently E.U expansion critera has to be met in order for Turkey's accession to continue. |
