Hey everyone. So far this forum has been really helpful.. From what others have said it looks like it's legal to work part-time on a student visa. So I'm gonna apply to the linguistics program at Universitat Pomeu Fabra. Maybe go for a CELTA over the summer. If anyone knows anything about this school - or studying at Spanish Universities in general - concrete answers to these questions would help out a lot:
1) The website says that my program is taught in English, Spanish and Catalan. However, on the admissions page it says there's an English requirement for all students but no Spanish requirement for foreign students. I'm really not sure what this means. I have a conversational knowledge of Spanish, but I would probably have to spend a semester taking Spanish classes if I'm going to have to read and write papers in academic Spanish.
2) Does anyone know what TA opportunities might be like at the university for ESL classes? I've contacted the university about this but have not yet received a response.
If you need extra info about me to answer these questions: I'm an American citizen about to graduate with a degree in English from the University of Florida. By August I'll have worked as a TA at the English Language Institute at UF, and I taught English in Chile last summer as well. I also have plenty of experience with private tutoring.
Like I said, any info would be really appreciated. http://www.upf.edu/postgrau/en/masters/comunicacio/linguistica/presentacio/index.html |
