I've read about Thailand, Indonesia, and Cambodia. Jobs seem to be in high demand, and qualifications relatively low. How's the current situation in Vietnam? I'm 22, white (I've heard it matters),undergrad with no degree, working on finding a cheap TEFL course, and of course no experience. I love Vietnam, and highly interested in working there whether in a rural, or urban setting. Hue would be ideal, but who am I to be picky? Whats the situation over there...could I show up and find a job easily considering I do my part as far as seaching my ass off for school's (newspaper ad's, online ad's, other teachers, and paying the cart or bike driver to take me to every school/institute/program in the area. As for living expenses, I'm looking to get away from western luxuries, and living a somewhat simple lifestyle...perhaps a 6 pack a night, a pack of smokes, and a few tidbits here and there. What do yall think? |

You might have to settle for a crappy school that doesn't pay or treat their teachers very well. It's more a question of "do you love kids and do the kids love you." If the answer is yes to both, you'll do well. Don't expect to teach adults. |

That sounds like teaching kids is not taken very seriously in Vietnam. I have a masters degree, 5 years teaching experience and plan to do a TEFL course before I start working in Vietnam next year. But I want to teach children. Do you think I could find a decent (paying) job? |

Some people take it seriously while others don't. I just don't think a 22 yr old without experience should expect to teach adults. On the other hand it doesn't take a masters degree to teach "I like apples" to 6 year olds.
I'm sure you'll do fine. |

Bart, you should try making your own thread instead of trying to to set your own post on mine. I'm looking for answers suited to my situation, not yours. |

Mate, you have posted the same thread on several forums. Seems that you have no idea what you want to do or where you want to do it! |

I'm pm'ing on several boards because I want the most answers about the most places. Seems like a reasonable thing to want to know when youre considering changing your entire lifestyle in a completely new place. I'm highly interested in Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia. I prefer Thailand and Vietnam, but I'm not disappointed about going to the other 2 either. Confused about where I wanna go? Not really..more like confused about WHERE I can go considering my qualifications. |

Relax Allgetabong, I'm just responding to something that's being said in this thread. You can still get your answers. This is a public board and nobody can claim a thread. People respond to each other and threads evolve, that's happening all the time. |

It is better when threads evolve. Otherwise the question asked is answered in one or two posts and it dies. |

Yes. You need at least fifty signatures, political backing and approximately US $1,000,000 in the bank as disposable income. |
