Hi there!

I am heading to Santiago next month. Initially just for a break but am considering staying longer and teaching English. Any advice, tips on living in Santiago, teaching etc would be much appreciated! Specifically I would like to know how much you can earn as an English teacher, as I have to weigh up whether I can afford to stay..

I have somewhere to stay in Bellavista as I already know a couple of Chileans. But I dont speak the language (yet!) so would love to meet up with other English speaking people to share experiences, advice etc

Hi,

well I don't know too much about the money situation in Santiago, but as a general rule starting out I wouldn't count on economically doing much better than "breaking even" especially if your going to start from scratch when you get here as contacts take a while to make. initially you might need to expect to dip into savings a bit for the meanwhile and to get other arrangements set up.

as far as meeting english speakers... there are facebook and couchsurfing groups that regularly organize get togethers, as well as a couple bars that typically cater to the english speaking crowd. you might try going there for an event such as forth of july, an important sports game, political date, etc...

best of luck
