Provide more information such as: your qualifications, years of experience, job sector, your passport (plus colour of your eyes!), etc. |

With the Saudi government university, the basic salary for a lecturer (Master degree) is in the range of [8500 - 13000] excluding other benefits (housing, transport, yearly increment, etc). Plus, you get a % on top of your basic salary, this will depend on your employer, your case (single or married), and your negotiation. The maximum number of years of experience allowed is 5 years, check with your employer. |

Thanks, oo7, the offer I've received is withing that range. I am not very good at negotiating a higher level of pay, particularly as this is me my first overseas job - maybe next time. Thanks for the information, now I wil start practising my patience skills, the visa process sems to be long, slow and arduous. By the way, have you heard of anyone collecting their visas outside their country of residence? We'll be travelling for 3 months with my husband from June to August. And can you tell me when people usually start working at the beginning of the academic year? Thanks |

You need to check with your employer regarding the issuing of your visa.
The academic year for 2009/2010 will start end of September 2009 for some of Saudi universities. Check the web site of your employer, probably you will find their academic calendar published online.
Good luck. |

The academic year (i.e., first days of classes) will start September 26 in all universities, I believe, due to Ramadan and Eid encroaching in the summer holidays.
However, some employers may ask faculty to start coming to campus a couple of weeks earlier than that (just to waste time and so the admin can feel powerful). |

That's great. I will have more time to chase up my visa and a chance to prolong my holiday. Thanks everyone for your posts, it's been very helpful. It's a big decision and I feel a bit overwhelmed by it all, and this forum is very handy to find anwers for those questions that keep us awake at night. I am sure I'll use it again |

Are you sure that years of experience is restricted to 5? Someone just received an offer from a public university and they counted 6 years of teaching experience. The more years you have in teaching at tertiary level the better. |

Well, the default Saudi government university rule is 5 years. But, for exceptional cases, the academic council of the university has the authority to accept/allow the years of experience up to 15 years. But it is very rare. |
