Hi, I've done a search on this but couldn't find anything that answered my query, so, I hope you can help! With an MAEd + TEFL Cert + several years experience, what is a good/average salary to expect/ask for teaching adults for ADEC? Thanks |

I think it depends on the provider and what the job you are going to do - teacher trainer or mentor or teacher or team leader
12,000 would be a decent starting point with decent benefits. Depends if you are single or with kids. |

Don't accept anything less than 12,000 + housing + tickets. There are places here which pay 17,000+. I am getting 18,000, a lot more than I did in Qatar. |

The school I am applying to work at offers 9,000 to 12,000 to teach primary students. I thought that that was a good salary. I have a Bachelor of Ed and a teaching Certificate and 3 years experience. Can I find better or is this wage about right for my qualifications and experience? |

How about 13,000 for teaching adults with an MAEd(Applied Linguistics), Trinity TESOL and nine years experience, none in the ME? Thanks |

Are you one of those teachers? Can you or anyone else confirm that they've been offered that much? There are so many conflicting opinions on here, it's difficult to know what to believe at times. Thanks |

It is not so much a reflection of "opinions" as there are various recruiters and different contracts and people with widely varying credentials. If my credentials were the minimum required and I had 1-3 years experience, I would expect to be closer the bottom. If I had multiple credentials in K-12 with highly varied experience and 10+ years of teaching, I would expect to be at the top.
BTW... does ADEC teach adults? I thought they were K-12 contracts?

Mr.F.
you are very right. One of the things that spreads on Daves is the rumor that someone is making more at this place.
I know that 13.5 is about the starting salary for HCT instructors. It is supposed to be the base (and was with some of the teachers who arrived here in Jan.). But I have also heard stories of some teachers coming in negotiating for more and getting up to 15.5 to start. HCT used to have their starting scale online, but is seems to have disappeared.
I think it may also depend on the school and the emirate.
I know that ECAE in Abu Dhabi was offering teachers 18K a month last year.
But the really interesting part shouldn't just be the salary, you want to also look at
1. educational allowances for kids (if you have any) because with more than 1 kid, you reallllllly run out of that FAST and may have to pay out of pocket
2. how many days off for the summer will be paid
3. Housing (is it an allowance, or is housing provided)
4. the decorating "allowance"
5. airfare for you and your family for the summer |

How do people negotiate (successfully) for a higher starting salary? I'd like to know how to do that in the ME |
