Hey everyone!

Hope all is well! Just wondering if anyone has gone through Hess or Reach to Teach in Taiwan? If so can anyone give me some insight on the programs. I am currently working with both and have to send my stuff by July but want to get some backround on both programs and the actual experience and life in Taiwan. I am hoping to get into Taipei so if anyone has lived there I'd be very open to hear some stuff about the city. Thanks so much guys!

Do a search on the forums and you will find a ton of info about Hess, Reach to Teach, and Taipei.

My 30-sec personal summary:

I know a few of the Reach To Teach crew, and they are good guys. Can't go far wrong with them. They will treat you well, and I believe they only work with schools they trust to look after their new teachers.

Hess has both attractors and detractors. Starting pay is not high, and you will likely work 6-day weeks, but there are other benefits you might not find elsewhere (training, startup loan, etc). My own experience has been good - I know of others who have had both good and bad experiences. It is what you make it, I think.

Nice to see that some people listen. Smile

But seriously, search and read, then read some more, and then search some more. When you've done that, then ask questions about things that you can't find with searching. You'd be amazed how often the same questions get repeated here!

Good luck, and don't just limit yourself to Taipei, there's a whole island of awesome cities with tons of great stuff offer.

Hey Jen;

I would also recommend, if you want to get a feel for Taipei/HESS/Reach to Teach, to check out some of the stuff on YouTube. YouTube has quite a few videos about Taipei, HESS, and Reach to Teach. Just type those things into the YouTube search engine, and you should find some videos that you might find interesting. Of course, like everything on YouTube, I can't say they're all going to be videos of substance, but nevertheless, I'm sure you'll be able to find some things that will give you some insight into a teachers life in Taiwan.

Good luck,

fich
