I have officially got word that I will be interviewing in May for one of the elementary school teacher positions with ADEC.

I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of interview questions are asked? Is there a format to the interview? For instance, in past interviews I have been asked to talk about certain situations relating to classroom management or literacy programs. I have been asked to provide examples of students work and other such things.

I am also wondering what I should wear? I am wondering if a long skirt and blouse, maybe even a head scarf would be better than my usual interview fair of a pant suit?

I will be interviewing in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

I'm not the type to wear a long skirt (I am 5 feet 'tall'). But I am more than willing to wear anything, even an abaya.

If you're interviewing in Canada, go dressed as you would normally do in Canada. Show interest in what will be expected of you once in the UAE and be willing to agree to wear an abaya if asked in the interview. Some employers expect you will, others don't.

Agreed Carlen! Once here, what to wear will be the least of your problems for the first six months. By asking for information about what you will be expected to wear, you are showing an undersanding that it could be different. Off the job in Dubai and or Abu Dhabi, you can wear pretty much what you like.

Really? There are some schools that require an abaya?

Thanks everyone for the help. I do understand that dress should be the least of my concerns and that's why I want to get that question out of the way. From here on in I can prepare myself for the interview in terms of preparing some examples of situations I have been in and programs I have put in place in my classroom.

Any other suggestions for preparations to be made in advance of the interview?

Thanks again to all for the help. It's nice to be able to get these questions answered quickly so I can move on to other things.

VS - there are some schools that require women to wear an abaya and a sheyla. They are always the Emirati national schools. I haven't heard of any men being asked to wear one of course  They seem to be permitted to wear trousers, shirts and ties unlike the Emirati men who have to wear the kandoora/dishdasha etc

Lorien, did they send you an email. I saw they updated the site and included the dates the interviews are taking place. Do you have the time and place or not yet?

Hi TeachNY,

I have only received the general time and dates for the city I live in, Vancouver. From what I get, they have yet to finalize the venue in Vancouver where the interviews will actually takes place. Which means they probably aren't able to give exact times yet.

There seems to be a lot of different cities they're going to. I have to wonder how many candidates they will be interviewing?

Are you waiting for word about an interview?

Integrity,

Thank you for the great website. I have also also found this site to be very useful.

http://resumes-for-teachers.com/interview-questions.htm

The site is designed specifically for teachers.

I guess they are trying to finalize the exact place and time of the interviews. before they notify perspective candidates.
I wish us both good luck in this mission.

From New York City,
