Hey everyone,
When I was deciding to come to Korea a year and a half ago, I came on to this forum and was able to get some great help from you all. Now I feel like it's time to move on and try another job in another place, so I've been doing a lot of research and I'd like to ask some specific questions. I hope someone can give me some advice!
First of all, I'll give you some background information about myself. I'm in my mid-twenties, from the US and have a BS in Education. I'm licensed to teach Spanish in the states and I have a TESOL certificate from a 40-hour course I attended in Canada. After graduation, I moved to Korea to teach at a private institute and ended up really liking the job. I currently teach high level reading skills classes to students in grades 5-8. Most of my students are fluent in English or close to it.
After being in Korea for a year and a half, I've decided to continue teaching English for at least the next several years, and possibly longer. I have my sights set on some of the more secular countries in the Middle East, such as Turkey or Morocco, for my next contract.
Here are my questions: Would it benefit me to get a TEFL certificate before getting a job in either Turkey or Morocco? I'd like to find a position teaching older, more advanced students, similar to the one I have now. I definitely do not want to teach beginners or young elementary students. Should I be looking at private institutes in those countries? What types of jobs would I qualify for with my education degree and experience teaching abroad?
And the final question: Did I post this in the right spot???
Thanks in advance for any input!
