|
|
Hi, What is a typical timeline for applying, interviewing, moving and starting a one-year contract with a public school* in China? Is there a certain time of the year when schools start the process for the coming year? When does the school year normally begin and end, etc? I'm specifically interested in public schools as they seem to be the most stable and forthright. Thanks
(*edit: A publicly funded primary school, middle school, senior middle school or university. Not a private language school.)

The recruiting process for public schools has already begun and it will intensify over the next 6-7 weeks. Some work through agents, other work through paragovernmental organizations and others are direct-hire. I am not sure exactly what you mean by a public school -- are you referring to primary school, a middle school, a senior middle school or a university?
Having worked at both public, parapublic (meaning owned by huge corporations by handed over to a village or region) and private, I think that your assessment is quite accurate. Wages tends to be less in public schools, but not always, and often the second-year raise, if you stay again, will put you within striking distance of some private schools -- but I am saying this in respect of public schools non-university level.
Best of luck. |
