Haha, that's exactly what I'm waiting to happen. Might play around with them a bit, scambaiting can be fun I hear.

Worrying thing is though, he sent me a contract to sign (which I signed as a member of the Vulcan Order and emailed back before noon today) and accidentally sent me one for someone else too. Should I post her name here, or is that bad netiquette? It would be a shame for someone to get scammed, but then again, she probably wouldn't come across it anyway.

I used to know of several people working as personal tutors for families in China who earned more than this. If the guy is an expat engineer or something, he might just have a lot of cash to splash around.

My prognosis would be, its probably a scam, but there's a small chance it isn't.

Wait and see, don't write it off (but don't hedge your bets either).

For somebody ostensibly NOT in the EFL field, Mr Sanata sure seems to know where to find low priced EFL advertising.

He's here:

http://www.jobsabroadbulletin.co.uk/tefl_jobs_index.shtml

And here:

http://www.eslelite.com/cgi-bin/mojoJobs/id/30525/

As well as in the link you mention.

Funny thing is, he's virtually nowhere else.

A guy with his dough, in this day and age, is virtually certain to have a web presence- but other that the link he posts to his family site, and his various ads, this guy has none. Suspicious.

Funny, too, that this guy has the web-savvy to set up a homepage for his family, how sweet, and there is not a word of Spanish language content. Funny for alleged Spanish speakers, isn't it? No Spanish content on the web at all related to this guy.

In fact, if you happened to have a phone book for Madrid, or another major Spanish-speaking metropolis at your disposal, you could check out how common his surname is. You're unlikely to find it- "Sanata" is NOT a Spanish surname. Maybe it's a misspelling of "Santana?" Anything is possible for a guy who doesn't know that his own first name, "Jose," is spelled with a tilde on the last vowel. "Jos."

None of his language errors look really typical of Spanish speakers...

On the family website, somebody has uploaded 71 family photos, and nothing else. THe titles of the photos are all in English, and have a worrying inconsistency in the spelling of the names of "his" children. (WHo are called MacKenzie and Gebriel, by the way. Usually at least. Gebriel is Gabe for short, and sometimes Gabriel.)

The blog on the website is unused, the calendar unused. In fact, somebody appears to have uploaded the photos and never done anything else. Curiously, this web page appears, according to google, not to be linked to any other page.

This things might not be a scam. And pigs might fly.

Be smart, folks. If it looks too good to be true...ya know.

PS- Horseface. I imagine that you shouldn't post anyone's name here, without their permission. However, if you google the good lady's name, you'll probably find her. (They'll have made sure.)

Send her an email, and you'll find out that they accidentally still had a contract with her name on it around since she worked for them last year, had a marvelous time of course, and they're a great family...

Scammers aren't stupid.

Like Justin, I checked up the website. Nice to get updated on Spanish Culture. In the few years I've left they've adopted Halloween and Easter Eggs and give the presents away on Christmas Day instead of Twelth Night.

Just a shame I couldn't find that lass online, hope she doesn't get ripped.

I'd toy around with him a fair bit if I had the time, but I suppose there's no point going down that road apart from petty fun.

Right then, jobsearch mode/ON

Dear Mr Yoink!

To apply for a Temporary Work/Entry Permit Visa and STR Visa to India , you need to submit the following documents:

1. Name of the nearest airport you would be flying into the country from.
2. International passport details,
3. An address reachable by courier services.
4. Filled Indian Work/Entry Visa Application Form.(Application Fee Included)
5. Signed Contract Letter Between You as the Employee and Your Employer

Once we receive the following information from you, We Submit your application to the Indian Immigration Service to seek approval for your Work/Entry Permit Certificates which need approval from the Comptroller General of Immigrations. It takes two to Three working Days For this kind of Case to be processed.

An Application Fee Which is to be paid by you is required to enable us commence and finalize all your necessary Work/Entry permit and registration of documents as we need to reach out to NIS for immediate procurement of your Work/Entry permit Certificates and other supporting documents in record time. As a result of time constraint for expatriates owing to the Work Commencement Date, all payments are to be made via money gram or western union money transfer.

Then proceed to scan, attach and send receipt via e mail to us informing us that the transfer has been remitted.

This would enable us initiate procurement of requisite documents. (Hard Copy Contract Letter, Prepaid Flight Tickets, and approved work/entry permit certificates ) would be packaged and sent to you via Courier Speed Delivery to enable you travel down to your duty location to resume duties in record time. Indicate in your response, convenient hours to receive package on procurement to enable us make appropriate adjustments with the courier

Documents should be expected within three working days on confirmation of payment information.
The reason for this is to ensure that expatriates with Letter of Contract do not have to travel down to India for any other reason other than the primary aim of commencement of work as required.
Please note that the cost of your Prepaid Flight Tickets Will be undertaken by your employer.
Do well to also indicate your arrival date of receipt of travel documents as that would enable us arrange airport pickup.

Please acknowledge receipt of this e mail and information contained herewith.

Regards.
