Do any of you fine posters have any experience with having private lessons with 2 students at once.

This opportunity has presented itself, and I am not sure how much I should charge for a 60 minutes class with 2 students.

The lessons would be taking place in my home.

Any ideas or comments?
Regards,
JW

that would depend strongly on what the students' expectations are.

if it's a conversation class, no preparation, and they're old enough to be working and making their own money, i'd charge them no less than 40zl each.

it's only up from there depending on how much preparation the classes would require. i simply don't see the point in having classes with people for less than that, unless of course you're really hard up for cash.

Actually,it's a man and his 13 year old daughter.Just conversation.

I told him 80zl total for 60 minutes, but he scoffed at that amount and said 60zls.

No way would I do that for 60 zl. 80 sounds fair to me, but that's just my opinion. I charge 50 for my private lessons regardless of how much or how little prep I have to do and I always try to deliver a little extra value added, whatever that might be.

Yeah,I think 80zl is reasonable.60 is a bit on the low side for two students.

it's simple. if he scoffed at it, you tell him that's your price, end of story. easy. for most Polish people, finding a native speaker in their town of residence, someone that knows what they're doing, has experience, along with somebody they actually like.........few and far between. if this man is willing to let a rare find slip through his fingers for a measely 20zl., so be it. tell him to go find another teacher comparable to you.

when you and I walk into a store to buy something, we have to pay market value for it and in most cases, there's no room for negotiation. this man you're dealing with should be facing the same thing.

Yes,you speak the truth. We all know how notoriously skinflintish Polish men are. Cool

The women,not so much.

The last few months of the school year,I always try to take on extra work because of the looming break ahead.I don't overvalue myself, but as you said, the market is fixed when it comes to this.

Sure theres a middle class now, but 'correlation is not causation' or something like that... most of the students we have are already middle class or above who actually have the extra money to spend on english lessons, just look how they dress, act, etc. The vast majority of poles you see on the street cant afford that, or if they could, would rather spend it on a luxury.

80zl is very fair... if he refuses, he can go and find another sucker. Don't sell yourself cheap, an adult and a 13yr old can prove to be a difficult situation. It's easy to hold up a convo with an adult, but with a kid in the room it becomes a different ball game.
