Well hi everybody. This may be dull and stale to most but I just turned 50 here in Saudia a couple of days ago. Never in my wildest immaginations did I think I would be here in the ME spending my birthday alone with my wife 10000 miles away in North America.
She will join me soon as she is also getting her TESOL certification there. We are so happy the and thank God for this great opportunity that has developed here. My employer is waiting anxiously for her arrival (June 2009) and so are some other private girls schools. I have been promoting her as I feel like it is the least I can do for her. It seems just being married is all they want to know about her other than her credentials, and they are ecstatic.
I had some spirits that I saved for this occasion and she had hers and we video toasted my birthday.
Well I hope this is OK to post about. And it's a change from all the other posts I've been reading lately.
Regards

Well, happy birthday, and hope you will not experience mid-life crisis in the Magik Kingdom, as it happened with Uncle Scott who turned 60 in 2007 in the Magik Kingdom (happy birthday for him as well)! |

Mabrook, mabrook, 12 monkeys! I did the same last year, turn 50, that is, regrettably on 9/11 in the U.A.E. We're merely half-way there!

Nothing dull and stale about reaching 50, my friend. Ask any 49 year old. I had my 50th in the Kingdom. |

12 monkeys ...Congrats on reaching the big 5-0!
At least on such occassions... technology enables one to connect with loved ones
Seems there are lots of 50 year olds on this board!
I also turned 50 last October while in KSA...life is good!
Good luck with your stay in KSA! |

I remember the days back in the 70's when dear ol' Dad was stationed in Korea, we would have put in a request for a WATS line and had to sit around the phone for an hour or so for it to ring when a line opened up. We'd then call his number and have just gotten on with the conversation when that God-awful click would come, severing the connection as official military trumped calls to or from loved ones.
Nowadays, I jes' click on the icon to pull up a program and talk to dear ol' Dad, who is comfortably at home and retired, from my tablet...
We've come a long way baby!

Well, I wonder if Uncle Scott has beaten the above record or not?
Where are you Uncle Scott?

Just out of curiosity, which is more accurate?
1. 50 year olds
2. 50-year-old; or
3. 50 years old |

Option 1, I think.
I'll be joining the 50 year olds club next year - though not in the Kingdom, obviously. Glad to know I'm in good company - most of my colleagues and friends are much younger, and unsympathetic... |
