More seriously i,m gonna be skint for a spell and with lessons fairly low anyway i may have to rethink Mexico.

Ditto here near Guadalajara - my suegros run a pharmacy and they ran out of the little blue masks this morning.

I've had to send home a few sad-looking kids, but other than that, it's pretty ghost-town-esque here.

Everythings OTT - and inconsistent as usual. It is supposed that even admin staff aren't supposed to go into the schools, but what is the difference betwwen that, and a large open-plan corporate office?
BTW, I feel for you guys who are paid per hour - I've been there, and I'm grateful for my fixed salary - anyway, I did more work than usual yesterday without classes to give, so I earned it!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't know. According to my Internet acronym finder . . . the meaning which makes the most sense is "over-the-top" . . . (if I'm wrong . . . somebody REALLY "ott" to correct me )

May 11th? Man that is bad. Are schools like Interpersonal English and English Unlimited going to be able to pay teachers during this time? Maybe teachers who can't teach can make some income and help others by doing childcare (and in-home teaching?) for families whose parents must both work?

About SLP but on an unrelated issue, what's happening with the GM plant which was being built there last year and was supposed to be opening? Is that going to happen given GM's problems?

I hope you all in Mexico are doing OK financially and healthwise.

TheLongWayHome when they mentioned the suledos garantizados on the news I think it was just for those who work in the public schools, teachers who are members of the sindicate, was it not? At least that's what they announced up here in the north of the country. I highly doubt it will include all of us who work in private schools. Or perhaps you've heard something different?

I guess you're one of the lucky ones.

I actually work in a private uiversity myself, not the private language schools, and there doesn't seem to be any sign of us receiving any payment in this time. The classes will however be moved a bit so that we complete the time periods designated to each course. Its something I guess

Not really Mexicobound. If it were the case, like many teachers across the country, that upon finishing these clases I wouldn't have any other classes until August when the next school year starts then really I wouldnt be loosing out on any money, just finishing and getting paid those hours a few weeks later than originaly planned.

However, immediately after finishing these classes the summer courses etc start and finish just before the next school year is due to begin. The summer courses will obviously have to be shortened in length in order to be completed as planned and not have any courses cross over. As we only get paid for the actual hours we teach we do effectivly loose out on almost two weeks wages.
