There is a restaurant for staff and faculty. Cheap- from about 10 to 25 riyals for a meal. Open 11.30 to 13.30 on working days and in vacations. Closed at weekends. Men only. No families. Middle Eastern style food.

On campus there are also student restaurants where you can eat, as well as privately-run restaurants.

Thank you, scot47!

I was asking the question for I am worried that I need some time to settle down (buying cookers and materials) so we need to find a place to eat temporarily.

It is good to have canteen or resturant there, and prices sound ok too.

For the resturant off campus, are there any course made of pork? I may miss it for I have been eating it since one year old.

Pork? In Saudi Arabia? Are you out of your mind? Shocked

There is no pork here, nor are there any cateens or resturants.

Hey trap... I see you're being today's spell checker. Laughing

hehaheha... if you need a "pork fix" you can probably get one over in Bahrain. At least it is available in the UAE and Oman.

Scot47? does Bahrain serve bacon at breakfast in the hotels?

Sorry Trap, but pork can be bought in the Magic Kingdom. I had a marvellous breakfast once on a Friday with an American golf buddy. Bacon, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes and hash browns(?). This absorbed the previous night's home made Jack Daniels which this Alabama golfer claimed was better than the real stuff. Then golf. We didn't play too well that day. Wink

Thanks to Sheikh! That is my hope: there is a small opportunity to get pork.

O.K. OP, here's wacha do if'n ya wanna avoid black-market prices on tanzir...

Bop across the causeway. Go to the supermarket next to the Pearl roundabout (o.k., you contemporaries and those who have clearer memories, am I correct?), go into the "Pork Shop", make your choice, tell the unfortunate behind the counter "mark for Saudi", said individual will strip it of its' original wrapping...reweigh it...an' label it with a word that begins with a "V". Put into your iced cooler and hightale it back 'cross the border!

If'n you got a foreign diplomat as a fren', go to the liquor store next door and purchase as much of the "real stuff" as you feel comfortable with (and, here's the important point here...don't sell it for the profit...consume it for the numbing effect Very Happy ) and have him/her carry it back in his/her trunk! They don' get checked! Cool

P.s.- This is jes' a primer on how to keep you sanity and a smile on yer face in Saudi...other than that Saudi Sux! (Y'all thought yer about to get away without having to read that again..c'mon, admit it!) Laughing

The Uranic drinker of Guinness clearly has a limited knowledge of Arabic.
Is that the reason he was expelled from this Garden of Eden ?
I wonder what he did to arouse the anger of the authorities. Why was he deported ?

Ohhh! VERY limited...and for a reason, the Mutawwa running amok in Riyadh really made me want to learn Arabic AND embrace Islam...the latter of which, I thought was something that "good" Muslims were supposed to "promote/encourage".

Is that the reason he was expelled from this Garden of Eden ?

Who? Me (looking over both shoulders)? For not learning Arabic? I don't think that's a deportable offense! Admittedly tho, I haven't lived there in 5 years. Be assured Scot, I never left the Habitat for Humanity ( Rolling Eyes yes, I know it's "Kingdom of" Rolling Eyes ) without my earned "Lo-No". And, FYI, I DID smuggle in Stout makings by convincing the knuckleheads at Riyadh International that it was indeed molasses in the plastic bottles that were labeled "Molasses". Laughing

I wonder what he did to arouse the anger of the authorities. Why was he deported ?

Who in the H-E-Double Hockey sticks ever said that I got deported? One might consider the accusation coming from one in a stupor, but I know that you're a 12 stepper...and I admire you for it. But Scot, let's not be throwing around frivolous accusations unless you can quote,,,and you can't...my being deported? You've accused me of propagating "urban myths" before, but this is really not like you! Or, who I thought you might be! Confused

Wot makes you falsely assert that I was deported from the wonderful Land o' Culture and Dignity? BTW, I can accept a "I got you confused with someone else." as it's happened to all of us... Wink
