I'm looking into as many schools or programs for teaching EFL as I can. I know I'm past the main hiring season but unfortunately I graduated in December and my university took it's sweet time adding my degree to my transcript and sending me my diploma. I'm already familiar with the two big schools AEON and ECC, and I've also heard about the James English School. Are there any other schools that I should look into? I'm not particularly picky on where I would be placed, however, I'm only starting to study Japanese so I fear I might have some trouble in more rural environments.
Also, I did exceptionally well in school and I have a degree in English so I'm thinking I might be a decent candidate for the JET program. However, I'm not sure waiting to apply for the JET program this fall is worth it since I may very well be turned down. I don't want to end up feeling like I've wasted time waiting when I could have acquired a job with AEON or another eikaiwa.
The soonest I can have adequate start up funds (approximately $2,000 to $3,000 over travel cost) is July/August.
So what are your recommendations? JET or eikaiwas? What other eikaiwas or programs do you recommend? Are there any good information resources you can recommend?
Thanks for any suggestions or opinions. |

There are tons of schools/employers, so if you're not picky, I'm surprised you only looked up 3 of them. Check out the FAQ stickies for starters.

Best place to learn! And, if you apply there, you have more chance to get the slot, as many people prefer the bigger cities instead.

JET doesn't really care about grades, and they accept people with practically any major. Only a minority of ALTs have degrees or experience in a teaching related field.

If you don't apply, the odds of getting a job with them are exactly, precisely zero. What have you got to lose? Don't give up before you even start!

There is no guarantee that you will get hired by anyone. Go with the percentages and apply to as many as you can.

Then, look for places that assist more in setup than others do, or hold off until Aug/Sept for the October hires. Maybe even early next year.

Both.

Do your own research, starting with the FAQ stickies. OhayoSensei.com has a boatload of ads twice a month, and there are other places.
