Warning:
If you plan on driving a motorbike, whether you rent of own, get a motorbike driver's license ASAP.
Your bike will be impounded for 1 month, right on the spot if you are pulled over, and you will pay a minimum of $100.
I just learned the hard way.
I have no problem getting a local driver's license here, but the enforcement of the new policy has happened very quickly. |

Yeah I heard they had a crackdown in HCMC. Be careful down there. I might start considering getting a license just in case they follow the same policy here in Hanoi. |

Just curious Tanker, but did they pull you over for any specific violation or was there no violation and they just wanted to see if you had a license or not?
It seems like a more serious crackdown if they are just pulling over all foreigners to check their licenses without cause or an infraction of the law. |

You need a Vietnamese one. However, you can get your British license translated and a get a Vietnamese one with that. Your motorcycle license will you get a motorcycle license and not a car license. However, it's validity is dependent upon it's expiration date in Britain. This below link seems to have a decent explanation of the process.

Hope that helps. |

Any ideas on how much a Vietnamese motorcycle license costs and how easy it is to acquire for non-Vietnamese? Cheers |
