In the beginning this was a great place to work. We opened March 25, 2008, and started growing rapidly. But as it is with any new thing, growth started to taper off near the Fall, so the Center Directors contract was not renewed

Enter the new director, and his aggressive new agenda: Make money, cut costs, at any cost!

Sparing the details of the past five months let me cut to the present. There are three foreign teachers one whose contract ends June 1, and the other 2 of us whose contracts end July 1. Salary is 8K per month, plus 1500 per month for housing and 500 for transportation. Housing allowance begins after three months, and transportation is added after six months. Travel 3000 after 6 months and another 3000 at the end of the one-year contract.

Schedule is 25 contact hours and 15 prep hours per week a lot, by many standards, I know.

NONE of the contracts will be renewed. The reason? The new salary for this center will be 5000 per month the other benefits not stipulated; so the current teachers salaries are too high.

Future teachers considering this center should ask if the same thing will happen to them, if they sign a contract especially in view of the fact that the local universities easily pay 4500, plus housing, travel, and insurance for only 16 hours work per week; and since the standard pay at all Web centers around China is 6,000 to 8,000.
