|
|
i'm planning to take the CELTA in HCMC this october.
NOT including the course and airfare, does anyone have any suggestions on how much savings i should bring to get me through the course, AND to get me through until whenever i find a job?
guess it'd be easier to ask how much per month, without working, should i budget? (including accommodation, food, a little entertainment)
thanks |

It depends on what kind of accommodation you are talking about, and your idea of entertainment, but if you allow yourself $1500 per month you should be fine. Good luck with the CELTA.

if u wish to leave an email, i can give u some contacts to get u started.
u could very well jump straight into a job as soon as the course finishes, unless your training school grabs u 1st? |

How much savings to bring ? All of it.
If you decide to stay you will need a motorbike and not a rental one either.
You need a place to live and time to look for it. If you don't know the city it will take several months to adjust and find your way around.
You might want to get familiar with HCMC first before jumping into work. A few weeks of orientation should do it.
October is a bit slow in some of the language centers i work in so I usually take a couple of weeks off and get to the beach.
Tet Holiday is only a few months away and again the schools empty out and everyone departs for their hometowns. |

Tet holiday is in mid-February, a half-year away. |

Many students will not study the semester before Tet, or through the Tet holiday, so recruitment can start to decrease as early as December, depending on the school.
The best time to come is after Tet, and the worst time is before Tet. October is closer to the worst time, unfortunately.
This year looks especially bad, as already, I see many a teacher looking for work. As well, so many schools have been run by madmen that the recent influx of workers has sent them into a frenzy. Abused, yelled at and humiliated, these teachers are also searching for another employer. A lot of horse-swapping going on. Troubled times ahead.
Korea and Japan look really good from here. |
