I did not know this. I as getting ready to fork out some significant pizza money when I discovered that all I had to do was trot down to the secretary of state with my papers, pay $10 per doc and off I was. It took 2 hours of driving, round trip, but it now I can buy a weeks worth of pineapple and Canadian bacon delights. Of course, this only works if the documents are from that state. |

Yep, that's right. CSome states are more expensive. I think CA is 16, but IL is about 2. |

Hi naturegirl321 and haopengyou -- The last time I bought an international notary in California -- a few many years back -- it cost me $27.00. But for the life of me, I can't remember how many pages I gave them. I was in and out of the state office in Fresno. CA in just under 2 hours -- the problem that caused the delay, the secretary from Mariposa County was not authorized to sign the documents and the state folks needed to verify who she was.
Also ----- I found that for the background checks (my local sheriff's office in Mariposa, California was not quite good enough, I also found the the California State Department of Justice was not quite good enough -- only the FBI was good enough! However, if you ever need a background check -- go to the FBI, then there are no questions asked. And you will find that FBI office in West Virginia and in the next town of Charleston, WV is the friendliest of women in the state office and she does the Apostelle and ships everything back to you by FedEx at no extra cost. At least the last time I needed the documents certified that was want happened. |

My local police doesn't do background checks, except for local teachers going to local schools or those adopting. I had to go to the State. And it took them three tries to actually notarise it so I could then get an apostille |

Thanks! Yes, I have applied for the FBI check also...as well as the state police. I have received the state police check and scanned a copy of it (with apostille) to the folks in Korea. They think it will be enough.
What a mess...what a bunch of hoops to jump through! But I am glad that you are all here to commiserate with! |
