I have one of the "coveted" interviews for the schools in Abu Dhabi on 5/11 I just tried on my suit and discovered...well, it seems to have shrunk! I will be buying a new one in the next couple of days so that there will be time to have it adjusted.

In the U.S. it is OK - maybe preferred - to wear a less formal looking suit (light brown, patterned, etc) to an interview for a teaching job because it usually projects a more "user friendly" image than a dark gray or dark blue suit.

What is the custom when interviewing with the AD schools?

In Abu Dhabi they prefer green suits, and in Dubai they tend to prefer shocking pink with pinstripes..

Of course I'm pulling your leg. I don't think the colour or design matters one jot.

Stick to what you feel comfortable with, the last thing you need is to worry about the colour of your suit.

Keep it conservative! Dark! Personal appearance is very important for the interview so be sure your clothes and hair etc are in order. Your first impression can cost you the job so take it seriously. Once you have the job you can develop the glibbness that has dominated this thread...or not. Good luck.

I fancy formal-casual, you know, like those tuxedo T-shirts!

Seriously tho, Dark Blue or Black...your disposition, I mean.

I'm dreading the heat, if I have to wear a suit. B-day suit sounds delightfully weather-appropriate! Embarassed

anaxi... you may be surprised to learn that in the extreme heat, I found that the more skin that was uncovered, the hotter one felt. I don't know if the men wear their suit jackets to work at AUS or not, but I don't recall seeing them worn much at my employers. Have you communicated with any male profs at AUS to find out?

Another detail is that places tend to be very over air-conditioned... in fact, downright frigid... so... b-day suit may be... you know... a problem... Shocked

VS, no, I haven't yet talked to anyone about such matters, but now I plan to. I did see quite a few male profs wearing dress shirts only in a department photo. I tend to dress fairly conservatively for teaching in any case, so I'll probably stick to my system. One trick I do in the summer is to keep 3 shirts and at least 1 suit in the office. If I arrive sweating like a horse I can then change into a cool, fresh outfit!
