Thank you for your e-mail. We are very pleased to hear that.
Let me tell you more details about the working conditions at our school.
I received this email from them last night after having sent my resume to them about two weeks. Since that time, I have exchanged numerous emails with the school. The school states it uses the PLS method of teaching and is asking for a two-year contract. I have no problem with making that commitment. I want to get the opinions of others before I proceed further:
"As I wrote in the last mail we work 40h/ week, 8h/day. Working hours are from 2pm-10pm from Mo-Fri. On Saturday we usually start in the morning (maybe 11am and finish earlier, of course). Usually there are never more than 5 teaching hours per day, most of the time it's even less than that. The rest of the time you're supposed to prepare for your classes or talk about new lesson ideas, give feedback etc. all in teamwork with your coworkers.
Most of the time your days off will be Sunday and Monday, sometimes Saturday and Monday.
The salary for our new teachers is always the same: 250.000yen
For teachers who are really doing a good job, there will be a raise within the year.
Furthermore we're paying half of the appartment's rent (apartment will be around 44.000yen, so we pay half of that and reduce this amount from your salary).
Please let me know what you think about our work conditions. If you have any more questions or need more information, please feel free to ask away"
I just find it odd that they haven't at least wanted to talk to me by either phone or Skype yet since most of the other schools here have done that.
If anyone has ever worked there and can shed some light on the place, that will be helpful too.

Who are you writing to? This is your first post on this thread, not a reply to an email.

Why are they talking about Saturday, when they just said you work Monday - Friday?

Are you getting paid for those non-teaching hours? Are you getting shakai hoken (corporate insurance + pension), which means the employer pays for half of it, or are they only counting your time in the classroom to report to the government that you are only a PT worker, so they can legally avoid making such payments and force you to take citizens' health insurance and pension (both of which must be applied for separately)?

Again, what days are you actually working? Unclear.

How much? What are the criteria for "really doing a good job"?

That means your take-home salary is 250,000 - 44,000 = 206,000, right? Confirm.

Don't fret over that. Case by case. |

Glenski, no they didn't. The English is not perfect, but it's pretty obvious to me that they mean that the working hours on weekdays are 2pm to 10pm (this does not necessarily mean that the teachers work Monday to Friday), whereas on Saturday they start and finish earlier. They then go on to explain the working days. |

Ok, I see how you can get that.
But, does this contract actually state how many Sun/Mon or Sat/Mon you get off? By law contracts must be specific in that regard. If not, and you sign it, you open yourself up to whatever interpretation the employer wants to believe. |

I am following up with them about some of the issues Glenski pointed out. That "thank you for your email" was actually supposed to be in quotation marks, but the phrase had a mind of its own and wandered off to the top of the post. |
