Anyone know about this place? I got an interview on Friday, but I can't figure out the website cause it's in Japanese http://www.otc-otc.co.jp/. The conversation I had on the phone is that they are some sort of corprate placement company. I'm feeling more than a little wary, thanks in no small part because one of the teachers on the webpage looks like a pornstar from the 60's.

Hey, I've got that video and whilst it is in black and white it is a classic. Think it is called Kana Sutra or something dodgy. I also think I remember that snazzy cassette deck in one of the scenes; no expenses spared, eh...............................?!

There's nothing in their website to indicate that they're shady. They seem to specialize in preparing people for the various official English qualification tests.

It's odd, however, that they have no English page, being a company that hires English speakers.

I agree that they need to update their photos. Smile

A former co-worker of mine who did some part-time work for them said "They're good." I think what he really meant though was that there is nothing overtly bad about them. I believe they're similar to other business English dispatch companies such as CTS and Phoenix. I did some work for CTS and while the impression they gave was that you have to be super professional in appearance and manners, the students were happy when I took a casual approach once the CTS staff left the room five minutes into the first lesson. Your students will likely be tired from overwork, and so will enjoy deviating from the business-oriented textbooks they'll likely be using. Try to get to know them on a personal level and I think everything will be good.

Thanks for the replies, my Japanese is rubish, so I couldn't gleen much beyond the photos. Why someone would make professional website and then put up aged photos is beyond me. I had a phone interveiw with them and the seemed alright, but they said it would be a full time position with lots of travel, so I'll have to see what happens. I actually have found my buisness clients more receptive to my teaching than the more casual set, so maybe this might be a good fit.

I can only speak for the Nagoya office, but when I worked for them they were great. They have been around for a very long time and seem to be very professional.
