|
|
I've been monitoring this group for a while as I have accepted a position in KSA (Riyadh). I'm looking forward to the experience but I also realize as a single woman, I'll probably have time on my hands because social activities might be very limited (?).
If there is nothing in my contract to prohibit it, what are the chances of using my spare time picking up extra cash by giving private English lessons?
Thanks--you guys (most of you, anyway ) are great! |

You never know - some female friends of mine claim to have a great social life here. Of course it's somewhat lacking in variety and you tend to see the same places over and over again. But a social life is there if you want it - and are prepared to go and get it.

It's usually fairly easy to pick up private teaching work. However, even if your contract doesn't specifically state you can't take on extra-curricular duties, Saudi labour law prohibits working for anyone other than your legal sponsor. Although many teachers do teach privately, and employers often turn a blind eye so long as it doesn't represent a conflict of interests, bear in mind that it is technically illegal, and could be used against you. |
