As of February 1st: If you are from most western country�s you will get a 30 day non extendable visa for maybe 25$ US (the fee has not been fixed yet) thats it, no options!

not so good for tourism, well maybe they don`t like tourists.

if op is true, theyre going back to the old system (late 1970s). that wasnt working either. it wont be long (maybe 5 or 10 years? ) till they realize the foolishness of their decision. theyre still a country where the politically and economically blind rule over a blind population. ive seen indonesia at its best (mid-1990s) and decided to leave simply because by the tme the country gets back to where it was wen i left, i'll aready have passed away.

I'll hazard a guess that this WON'T include other Asia countries - which is where about 90% of the tourists are from anyhow. Aside from Australia, most western countries are making it very difficult for Indonesians to visit - so the Indo gov't probably figures that turnabout is fair play.

I do believe Japan is on the list and along with Australians, make up a vast majority of travellers to Indonesia.

This is taken from the Jakarta Post on Jan 2.Since the, there has also been talk (Jakarta Post again) of imposing a 14 day non entry period from the date of exiting Indonesia. I'd assume, this is to prevent people working illegally and doing a visa run to Singapore. All a bit of a joke I say.

New visa policy to start on Feb. 1
JAKARTA (JP): The government announced on Friday that the new visa policy will start on Feb. 1, despite strong opposition from the tourism and hospitality sectors.
Justice and Human Rights Minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra said that President Megawati Soekarnoputri had approved this month the presidential decree on visas.
The decree grants a visa-free facility to citizens of Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Hongkong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region, Chile, Morocco, Peru and Vietnam.
The decree, signed by the President on Dec. 17, deleted Turkey from the list because it no longer provides a visa-free facility to Indonesians. Vietnam replaced Turkey since the neighboring country decided to offer a visa-free facility to Indonesians starting Dec. 4.
According to the decree, nationals from the U.S., Australia, South Africa, Argentina, Brazil, Denmark, United Arab Emirates, Finland, Hungary, the UK, Italy, Japan, Germany, Canada, South Korea, Norway and France are eligible for a visa-on-arrival facility from Indonesia. Citizens of Taiwan are also granted the same facility.
The new policy cuts the length of the free-visa-on-arrival stay from 60 days to 30 days. The new visa-on-arrival would also only allow visitors to stay here for 30 days.
Yusril said that it would take only several minutesfor immigration officers to process a visa-on-arrivalrequest.
