Hey, all -

I don't really want to start another massive Brunei thread, but wanted to let those who have followed my mini-saga know:

My paperwork has all been finally approved (as of this last week), and I am off to Kuala Lumpur sometime this week or next for to pick up my work visa chop for Yayasan. I've already received my schedule - mostly Form 1 & 2, as well as some Year 7 & 8 (as some of the programs are in transition over the rest of this year), English & Humanities (History & Geography). 20 classes/week. I have my desk, books, classrooms, parking space, etc. and have already met my co-workers & some of my students, too.

I'll also be helping with Heart of Borneo project, and have been asked to come up with an extra-curricular club of some sort. So no problems staying busy.

I am also staying on as the Editor of BiG (in fact, the new issue should be out by July 1st; it's off at the printers as I write this), and the school knows and is very supportive of this, as well.

So I guess, as I settle in over the next couple of months, I will be seeing some of you all around more, at MoE related events/functions - or just at the RBYC, SupaSave, the beaches, etc.

Congratulations Glen! I have been lurking on these boards for a while and I have loved reading your posts. They have been inspirational and have reassured me that I'm making the right decision in moving to Brunei this summer. I have admired your perseverance - I think I would have given up a long time ago!! Good luck with everything and I am sure our paths will cross when I get to Brunei - it sounds that kind of place!

Just to echo chilli's comments - you have offered some great advice and ideas and I thank you for that. Good luck wth the job.

We fly out to Brunei on 13th August so it's all happening this end. We are very organsied and prepared for anything!! Your advice has helped make that happen.

I've found it very interesting reading your posts Glen and really admire your perseverance...

I just applied to Cfbt but got turned down immediately because I don't have qualified teacher status. I'm a Brit, have CELTA, DELTA, MA TESOL from a British University, 16 years of ESL experience in over 10 countries, I'm a licensed teacher trainer for the School for International Training, but for ESL posts in Brunei it seems that EFL experience/qualifications are not considered important

I wish I had your persistance to turn up and look for work as I would love to work in Brunei, but with a wife and a kid and not so much money to support me, that would pretty tough! Anyhow, best of luck in getting work, you definitely deserve it
