I know that life can sometimes become boring, especially here in down town Himavant, sitting in a darkened room on a repro regency chair(slighly soiled-one owner) with my collection of Virginia "bloody' Ironside when into my head pops a song from one of Elvis' movies(everyone a classic)
Visa Las Vegas.............. Visa, Visa...................Las Vegas
The salsa besotted finger wagger sashays into the room humming the Ricky Martin classic, Living the Visa Loca....I decline to dance and stare out of the window past the balcony, past the baboons milking camels, past New Jersey Jocks smoking camels and then...........................................and then ...........the lone and level sands stretch far away.........................
Are there any other songs that can console me during the sad everlasting vigil.

well if you want to wait and wait, and not sink sullenly into your vinyl-fringed semi-garlicky folding lawn chair contraption, no doubt purchased at a souk somewhere in the Hejaz, then you may want to continue stealing quick glances slightly askance at the shiny console in the kitchen which is situated just adjacent to the maple syrup squeeze-bottle, perched so stickily near that brazen edge of nowhere, about 3.1426 meters from the 3rd knuckle on your left hand. |

Dear Kipling,
"Are there any other songs that can console me during the sad everlasting vigil."
Well, if misery loves company . . .
"I Am a Rock Simon And Garfunkel
A winters day
In a deep and dark december;
I am alone,
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
Ive built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
Its laughter and its loving I disdain.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
Dont talk of love,
But Ive heard the words before;
Its sleeping in my memory.
I wont disturb the slumber of feelings that have died.
If I never loved I never would have cried.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
I have my books
And my poetry to protect me;
I am shielded in my armor,
Hiding in my room, safe within my womb.
I touch no one and no one touches me.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
And a rock feels no pain;
And an island never cries."
But the "snow" reference won't work; just substitute "sand."
Regards,
John |

Dear freesoul,
Hmm, I did sell mine to a very urbane gentleman named Lewis Cypher:
"A small-time private eye in 50s Brooklyn, Harry Angel (Mickey Rourke) barely makes enough money to keep his head above water. One day, he receives a phone call from a law firm informing him that one of their clients seeks his advice. He meets the eccentric Louis Cypher (Robert DeNiro) in a run-down house and receives his assignment: Cypher asks the detective to track down Johnny Favorite, a man with whom Cypher had made a contract, a man who never paid off his debt, and now, it seems, a man who has vanished from the face of the earth. Apparently, after being submitted to a mental hospital as a result of a shellshock war trauma, Favorite disappeared without a trace.
While not overly interested in the case at first, Angel accepts mainly for the pay Cypher offers for the job. Going through the files of the hospital, he quickly discovers that Johnny was released from the asylum years ago. Latching on to a few loose ends, Angel manages to track down people Johnny knew but everyone he talks to or seeks out winds up dead, their corpses mutilated. Angel, disheartened, believes that the case might be a little too big for a hard-luck gumshoe; when Cypher offers a much larger sum, Angels enthusiasm for the case is restored. Not even the discovery that he has become the main murder suspect can keep Angel from trying to solve this case"
Regards,
John |

Mr John, surely Orson Welles ' A Touch of Evil" is actually a more accurate portrayal of some one who sells his soul to the devil for All the RIGHT reasons but is still corrupted, the fact that he is usually right in his hunches and officially on the side of the Angels does not negate his damnation...... and without that gobshitery....... it's still the best AMERICAN movie ever made.......on just about every level.
Mr K
PS, Lawtons' "The Night of the Hunter" gets my vote too. |

" Quite frankly Mother, it's turned out nice again." or so I seem to remember..... erm ....vaguely..... as you know the room is dark, the chair is soiled......the books are...(OK, Let's not go there anymore)...add to the motif as you will

Dear Kipling,
And, as with Milton, the Devil gets most of the good lines:
Louis Cyphre: The flesh is weak, Johnny. Only the soul is immortal.
[darkly]
Louis Cyphre: And yours belongs to ME.
Louis Cyphre: They say there's enough religion in the world to make men hate each other, but not enough to make them love.
Louis Cyphere: No matter how cleverly you sneak up on a mirror, your reflection always looks you straight in the eye.
Harry Angel: "Louis Cyphere"...Lucifer". Even your NAME is a dime store joke.
Louis Cyphere: "Mephistopheles" is SUCH a mouthful in Manhattan.
Regards,
John |

Mr JS,
Wasn't Milton a 1970s (apostrophe pending) Nappy (Dapper) cleaning formula???
Or am I once again mistaken?
Patron Saint of waitresses is another option..........yes yes dear I'll log off and come to bed. Tsk Tsk finger waggers, eh!!
Ciao Mr K  |
