Hello,
I am an American, currently living in the US, with two years of experience teaching English to adults in Italy.
My husband, a dual Brazilian-Italian citizen (has two passports), and I are seriously considering moving to Bangkok for at least one year. I would be getting a work permit.
However, he cannot teach English and would most likely not be working. He may eventually get a job or internship in a kitchen (he is a chef).
I am trying to find information about whether he can stay legally with me in Thailand on my work permit. I have not been able to find information about bringing a spouse with me as a dependent.
Thank you. |

Many families come and live here. I don't know exactly what paper requirements or salary requirements you need, but there are dependent visas. Go to thaivisa.com they should have some more information.
Good luck. Your husband cannot work in a kitchen in Thailand unless he is the executive chef. Thailand has many rules of what kind of jobs foreigners are allowed to do. |

frankley's right. They do have a visa for a spouse - I think t's a non-immigrant O visa.
Elathey, you will need to fly into Thailand with a non-immigrant B visa, or apply for one after you arrive and find a job.
You will have more options if you both come to Thailand on tourist visas and THEN look for a job. A lot of the better jobs don't advertize online. |

Thanks for the information. The thaivisa website is useful.
I have a follow-up question to your comment about my husband's ability to work in Thailand. If he cannot get a work permit unless he is an exec chef, do you think there is a possibility of him getting even an unpaid internship in a kitchen? I know there are resorts that have English-speaking staff (obviously it couldn't be in an exclusively Thai-speaking restaurant). He is interested in learning about Thai cuisine.
Thank you! |
