tips?
What kind of questions should I anticipate? What should I worry about? I fear I am underqualified, but I guess honesty is the best policy? Any advice would be appreciated.
BTW, having read through some of the latest threads here just now, I have to admit that I am quite terrified. I knew Saudi was a lot of things but I didn't know dishonesty was one of them with regard to contracts? Is this true? |

Interview questions are very much dependent on the employer and the interviewer. If the interviewer is an HR person then there probably will only be questions about your availability and interest and whether the salary offered is acceptable (salary is unlikely to be negotiable). If the interviewer is a manager who is closer to the postition, then questions may be more involved. |

You can probably expect pretty much the same type of questions you would get for any teaching job. Why do you want to come here? What would you do in such and such a teaching situation? Explain your approach to teaching?
.... and so on.
They may - and IMHO should - try to find out if you are psychologically suitable for KSA. That said, many employers try to gloss over this, which is one reason why we end up with so many patently unsuitable people here.

If you mean that you are underqualified in terms of 'paper' qualifications, surely this will have been clear from your CV? I would say in general terms, it's never good to volunteer 'negative' information at an interview, unless you are genuinely worried that any 'drawback' on your part might cause serious problems later on. |

Well, it is with King Abduliz University. What should I say to why I want to go there? |

You've been really helpful.
Should I just say that I want a good salary and benefits? |

Ease up, Bro. We just got finished with an overly-serious issue on another thread!
I think that Cleo's hitting on all eight cylinders! The advice that she gave was good and relevant. There was nothing more that I could've said. I jes' wanted a larf!
Why don't you answer your own question? Why on God's Good Green Earth would you want to go to Jeddah to be abused at an institution that has been so throughly trashed here.
Inquiring minds wanna know...
And as you posted on another thread...you SHOULD be terrified!

See Deicide??? Now aren't you glad that I told you to come down and read these threads and not just take my word for things.
Even if you decide to bail on this one, I would still do the interview. It is always good practice.

The bozos at KAU called me on 6 May at 2:20 a.m. Hong Kong time for my telephone interview. I let my mobile phone ring 3 separate times. Why would any reasonable employer schedule a job interview in such wee hours of an applicant's morning? BTW, I sent an email 3 days before the interview pointing out the time difference and asking to be called no later than 11 p.m.
This sounds like an entry-level gig for teachers willing to accept crappy working conditions and rock-bottom wages. The folks running the show at KAU are probably not reasonable employers. They probably want people who are less experienced and willing to take whatever they can get.
It's okay to be nervous for a job interview and to ask for advice. My advice: only if you NEED a job and you WANT to go to the Middle East should you accept a teaching job with KAU at this time. |

Deicide, whatever you do in the interview, do NOT mention your religious or ethnic background. |

I am a total atheist and have no religious background and don't really even consider myself a 'jew', just some label others give to me but after this hassle it has been made out to sound like I don't think I want to work in Saudi. Are the other countries in the region also like that? |

My guess was correct. Another one being lured by KAU. |

Yes... as long as the situation stays as it is between the Israels and Palestinians, so it will stay in the Arab/Muslim countries. This is a political effect.
Reality is that on an individual face-to-face basis in general, you're being an atheist would probable cause more consternation that your Jewish background.
Many of us had to just grit our teeth and write "Christian" even though we are not.
