It depends where outside the tertiary sector you want to work.
CELTA: good for the first job in a language school (anywhere in the world)or maybe in a college of Further Education etc (UK). As this is an intitial qualification it's not normally a case of either this or e.g. DELTA.
PGCE: if you want to work in a school, either international or local curriculum. Or PGCE with teaching adults as a specialism if you aim for FE college.
DELTA: better jobs in langage schools and colleges. You need experience to get a place on the course.
Add an MA to any of these if you are ambitious and want to be a Director of Studies or similar. |

The most effective route to take to get hired in the UAE as an ESL teacher is to do a masters.
These are no longer the preserve of prospective managers. They have become pretty much a necessity for the better teaching positions.
I had a DELTA for years, and applied for quite a few positions in the region without success. That changed when I added a Masters.
Unless you have something else that differentiates you, eg being a CELTA trainer, then you need that piece of paper in my experience. |
