This morning I met quite a serious problem regarding my work permit.
My current RP expires on the 18th of this month (June) and my contract expires on the 30th. No big problem you might think, just get it extended and move on to another school. This was my plan anyway and I had this confirmed by the PSB. But get this, the PSB are refusing to extend my RP with the excuse that I no longer work for my school so it is against their policy (exact words!). They instead want to issue me with a F visa until the end of the month. I argued aout this statig that it is ifact illegal to work on an F visa and since I have 4 weeks remaining on my contract and FEC they MUST extend the RP. This is direct communication with the PSB and not the FAO.
I then tried to explained the situation to the PSB. Working on a F visa is illegal (don't worry about it they said). Going from a F to Z to impossible in this province (just go to HonkKong they said). Getting a Z in HonkKong is impossible since the invitation letter states "Must be applied for in Britain" (so go back to Britain). What is the sense in spending 20,000+RMB to fly home just to get a new Z visa when all I really need to do is have a new school extend the RP for another year? (ahhh...)
I have been negotiating with another school these past weeks thinking I have a good month to sign a contract and apply for a new FEC. I now only have 8 days to do this. (The FEC takes at least 5 days). On top of that the new school wants me to begin in September. So asking a Chinese person to do all this in 8 days, 3 months early, is like getting blood out of a stone. Do miracles exist? |

Can't the new school give you another letter? Then just change your RP to a L visa by 18th, (longer than 30 days if poss?) or take the F and work out your contract. Start the z visa stuff with your new employer on 19th and get a letter so you can apply in HK. |

I think that the L visa is a really good advice, although they don't seem to be giving them for longer than 30 days anymore.
OP, I've had similar problem a few weeks ago and've got L no pro. Mind you, I overstayed by a few days on my RP with an employer I did not renew my contract with. My L was issued based on a letter from police station that I had a place to stay for the period of 30 upcoming days. My L visa has just been converted back to RP, although in another city.
On topic of converstions from RP to L and then back to RP, OP, there're some new regulations from last year around. If you stay in the same city and change employers you might be asked for a Recommandation Letter (not just a Release Letter) from your previous employer.

I don't think that that kinda approach with an authority works. Let's hope they haven't remembered you
Cheers and beers to having RPs for longer than our employment contracts |
