They have advertised again, for ten teachers, right?
Note that if you are one of the newly-hired ones you are highly unlikely to end up in lovely Yangshuo.

Ask them where they will send you to, and then post that place's name here again!

I don't personally work for Buckland but I worked with one teacher and met another who did. The first got a pretty good deal as far as pay and hours were concerned. Buckland also helped once or twice with some disputes with the school. After finishing one year, she found a job on her own in China at a school that she really liked. So Buckland worked for her as a start in China.

The second teacher had a lousy time with Buckland and didn't know it. Either he was over worked or underpaid for three years, teaching in HK, China, etc. I wasn't aware that Buckland operated in these places, but this is what he told me. His last teaching job was in China where he had a comfortable setup, however, the pay was substandard. He did better through Buckland in HK. He left China as poor as when he arrived.

Again, I can't confirm he used Buckland for HK.

So from the looks of things you could do ok or not so well. In my opinion, if Buckland can arrange airfare reimbursement at the beginning of the contract instead of the end, then it might be worth while.

Either way you'll just have to take the plunge. Good luck.

Mr Pink,
that teacher friend of yours must have pulled your legs telling you Buckland placed him with a Hong Kong school!
If anything is impossible in China, this is it!

Roger,

Laughing Maybe I was misinformed. How about I apply for a position in HK through Buckland to check the facts. The loser is on the next one way flight to HK Very Happy

It'll give you a chance to do some shopping on Nathan Rd. The vendors there really know how to take care of foreigners...

I've used Buckland as an agent for a little over a year now and have no complaints. PM if you'd like any details.

But as with any contract, make sure everything is spelled out, don't assume anything. If it says "You are entitled to X number of days...", make sure it specifies "consecutively". If it's a 6 month contract, do the math for what month you end up finishing, it does matter.

Good luck.
