I'm still in a state of shock, but am wondering if anybody can recommend a good lawyer in Chengdu to advise me on a breach of contract matter? I admit that I almost smugly took note of all the heartaches suffered on this forum at the hands of unscrupulous schools, thinking that my school would never do that to me. And now, I've been burned also. After agreeing to pay my airfare home, my school has done an about-face 3 days before my departure date. I've wasted 2 days trying to get the Foreign Experts Affairs Office to help, and they ended up advising the school and me to sit down again. But this time, I want some legal advice. Anybody out there know a good lawyer in Chengdu? Please PM me if legal referrals aren't permitted on this forum. And please accept my humble thanks.
Signed,
Never Thought It Would Happen To Me |

I don't want to unnecessarily dent your hopes, but hiring a lawyer is of extremely dubious usefulness.
If you are American, you can take some comfort from the fact that your country has a consulate in town; they could possibly point you to someone.
In all other cases, you are going to pay more in laywer's fees than you stand to gain...
And holidays are on the calendar; courts will close down. |

Thanks, Roger. I just had to give it the ol' college try, and then go lick my wounds like so many others on this forum. And thanks for not saying that I should think about prorating the airfare over the length of the contract, like you do. I'll remember that for next time!! Live and learn... |
