|
|
Hi All,
I am about to buy my plane ticket for my in country course. I was wondering for when I should pick the return date. Should I do it for two weeks, a month, 2 months after the course is over? How long does it usually take to find a job once you are done with the course in general, especially in South America? I know that once I find a job I will still have to change the return date but how long should I give myself to find a job?
Thanks for any help |

Where are you planning on going after the course? Returning home, staying in the country, or going to a third country?
Also, how old are you? If you're under 26 you can get a reduced price (unless they've done away with such things in the recession), and you may be able to get a flexible ticket with a one-year limit.

yeah I was wondering this exact same thing. I'm going to Costa Rica next month, Jun 29, and the course will be ending on Jul 24. I would like to get a job right away, for a year or less. How do I buy a flexible ticket like you're saying? |

Probably three months, you should find a job by then. If you do, or don't. you can still change the date. try kayak.com |

depends on which airline you chose. If you fly with delta, I THINK you are better off making the return date almost a full year later. If you end up needing it sooner, you can pay about $100 to change the date to an earlier time. Also, look into refundable tickets, OR just buy a one way!!!!!
Not sure what country you are talking about, and each countries visa requirements are different... |

I am planning on staying in country after my course in Ecuador. Can you get a flexible or refundable ticket if you buy thru like cheaptickets or orbitiz?

For visas to ecuador you need to show a return ticket. Trust me I would rather just get a one way. |

YOu might forget about a return and just show an onward ticket. SO if you go to Ecuador, just buy a one way to Peru or Colombia or some where cheap |

Are you doing all of the booking online? Start by searching for student/youth discounts--I can't remember the name of the travel agency that specializes in them just now, but hopefully someone else knows what I'm talking about. And then, to get custom assistance, I'd recommend picking up a phone and speaking to a live person--explain to them exactly what you want, even if what you want is vague (a flexible ticket, the possibility to extend, etc.). Tell them you're doing a one-month course and will likely be staying for several months after that. Ask about refunds and changing destinations as well... you never know what they will be able to come up with for you!
I got such a ticket to Prague--a one-year limit, departure date flexible, and when I realized I wouldn't be going home at the end of the year, I figured I would just lose the ticket, because discount tickets often aren't refundable. Found an agent in Prague (again, a live person--no internet bookings!), explained my situation, she looked at my ticket, and told me I could change the destination--I ended up getting a round-trip flight to Greece (my intended spring holiday) instead of using the ticket to go back to San Francisco.
