I was wondering if its possible to overwrite or install an English XP ontop in a laptop that already has Japanese XP installed in it? I'm buying this laptop in Akihabara but I want to be able to read it so I was going to just put in the disk and run setup and hope that it overwrites the Japanese XP with Eng. XP so that I will be able to read and use it. I am thinking that the drivers in it might not work with eng. XP, so the worst case scenerio, i reformat the HD, install Eng XP and get the drivers from the company's homepage and install. Does this sound possible or is there another way to go at it??? Please help.

If you're dead set on buying it, why not just ask the dealer to change the OS? Save yourself the hassles.

Just remember, computer warrantees are not valid outside Japan.

If you are shopping in Akihabara then you can easily find an export (English) model with English OS. Very simple.

I tried to do this last year with a Sony VAIO, and even tried using the set up discs from a friend's almost identical US model when the XP CD wouldn't install. It didn't work, and Sony's website doesn't support this conversion with drivers etc. It seems that Sony Japanese and English models are slightly different so now I am stuck with a Japanese OS. Other laptops might work though...
