Hello, I am considering going to Saudai Arabia for work in one if the Universities.

Hopefully I will be hired on a work visa. However there are still a couple of questions lingering in my mind that may make or break the situation.

1. I have conflicting reports that a police clearance is required. Well i have a formal caution from around 7 years ago (drugs offence) and I was over 18 at the time and I think it will be on my record still due to the nature of the offence.

My question is do you require a clean police clearance? On one visa application site it said I need only to have no convictions or any pending or outstanding charges or warrants. However the caution will still be on there.

Will a caution effect my application in any way in terms of refusal.

2. I am also wondering if they will ask my doctor to inform them of all past major medical illness I have had or is it just the medical check up that is considered.

I really don't want my employer or the Saudi Embassy knowing about my past medical history even if it doesn't effect my work in the present.

Unfortunately, we USAens doen't have the luxury of "cautions". We have bracelets placed upon us immediately...and then, if the offence is severe enuf. put to death...

I'm coming from the U.K and I am a U.K citizen.

Has anyone submitted this clearance?

I've never known the Saudi embassy in the UK ask for police clearance.

Thanks, that is great to know. I lived in Thailand for four years and they change the laws all the time for foreigners on many things. Police checks became an especially hot issue after that John Karr business.

I was refused a job only to be offered it again six months later when they forgot about enforcing the law as it was too much trouble.

Does Saudi have these sorts of scare tactics or brief measures with red tape that I should be aware about?

. I was doing a CELTA in Bangkok at the time. Two of my colleagues on the course were staying in the same guest house as Karr. None too pleased by the publicity.

With regard to the police clearance check what the UK embassy wants.

Oh yes they do (and can). It's a new thing. Many teachers who have worked here for years would now be refused a new visa regardless of how much wasta they have.

Police clearnce can be a real problem. I know of one would-be-returnee to KSA who is having real problems. What do you do if you have lived in 5 different cou8bntries in the last 20 years ?

What people forget is that in the US anybody can find out if an applicant has a criminal record. Universities don't need to go through the embassy. Why do so many KSA teachers retreat to Thailand in the vacations? Pretty obvious.

mmm I am confused, I am not sure but I think maybe he is trying to make some connection between criminal records and Thailand.

Please explain what is obvious.

He is implying that people go to Thailand to indulge in activities discouraged in other jurisdictions. You may not know this but fornication is a criminal offense in some places.
