Hi boring question here:

I want to get the minna no nihongo number 2, but with the copy I see in the shop all of the example sentences are in English. Do I need to buy two different books?

OK ... I don't have all your facts, but I'll share what I know. I am finishing up Minna No Nihongo I - and I am doing a hiragana/kanji version. You can also get the whole thing Romanized (English alphabet) - so you have to look for both editions. Also, what you may be confused with is that there are two main books - one is the basic textbook which should be entirely in Japanese (no English writing) and the second companion book has an English explanation of the grammar and vocabulary. I have both for level I but I believe they are available for level 2.

I also found some supplementary books like listening and Kanji practice etc that go with each level - but I think the main two books will do you just fine.

Now where did I get these books? I live in New York City where there is a Kinokuniya bookstore. If not, try the old standby Amazon, but try typing in みなの日本語 II (Minna no Nihongo II in Japanese) and see if that makes a difference...

Hope this helps!

All the example sentences are in English? I would say that is an English textbook not a Japanese one! Do you mean to say that all the examples are in romaji (alphabet)? Most of the beginner textbooks come in two different versions-hiragana/katakana and romaji. I would highly advise you to get the hiragana version. For me it's actually easier to understand than the romaji. These days if I ever happen to read a sentence written all in romaji it looks like complete gibberish to me.

Hi thanks for the replies

Like Timothypfox said you need two books, one of them is a translation of the other which is entirely in Japanese.

Thanks again!
