I have wanted to teach overseas (especially in Japan) for as long as I can remember. I think I am ready to take the leap and give it a shot but am hesitant (for a variety of reasons) to commit to a one year contract. Do schools in Japan hire teachers for shorter contracts, say 3 months or so?

I would be open to other countries but Japan is my first choice.

If 3 month contracts are a reality could someone provide me with contact information for schools or agencies I could chat with?

Thank you so much

The short answer is, No, not usually.

But occasionally you hear of such a thing. Try Westgate Corporation.

The experts on Japan will chime in in a minute

Best,
Justin

I'll just chime in to reiterate what Justin wrote. Want to know more? Come to the Japan forums.

Just be prepared to answer a few questions like these:
Why don't you want to commit longer?
What is your background?
When do you plan to come?
What sort of teaching work do you expect to start with?

Maybe you could find an internship? Or a camp job, but usually proper jobs last at least six months.
