Has anyone heard anything about this school. They say they pay more than all others and offer a paid training program. I don't want to take the plunge without hearing a few things about them. |

Are you in Mexico City? If you are I say stay away from them. From my personal experience and talking with some others who also have experience with them, they tend to look down on foreigners. They really are looking for Mexican teachers.
Perhaps Mexicans who have lived in the States. And, you'll have to fill the application out in Spanish so make sure your Espanol is good. They pay more than other schools (12 to 14,000 pesos per month) but you have NO free time. You will work too many hours.
Again, this is my experience with them in Mexico City. Try to find a teaching job working with companies. That's where the money is plus fewer hours.
The language schools in Mexico City will pay you little or screw you over. Not everytime of course but why take the chance. Head to the companies. |

That's more or less what I've heard about 'Quit Learning' is DF. Also that the salary mentioned has many strings attached and in reality turns out to be a lot less. I called to answer an ad a few years back when I was 41, and they were totally inflexible on the 40 age limit - always a crazy policy as they are obviously not looking for the best teachers (whatever age they may be). |

That seems to be the general consensus from everyone so I think I will steer clear of them. Thanks for the replies. |

I went through the interview process in QL SLP. I got accepted onto the training course (1 month in Mexico City) but didn't go in the end. Seemed too good to be true - and by the sounds of things - is. There were about 8 of us at the first round of interviews. First they cleared out anyone over 35. Next came the IQ test and the English test, then interviews, then phone interviews, then more interviews. I too got the impression they only hire 'chicas y chicos buena presentacion'. They also shy away from foreigners, only considering me as I'm married to a Mexican which means less paperwork for them. You get in there and it really does look like McDonald's as a language school. It's run along the same lines as Interlingua(cala) only it seems to pay more. BTW, that's another place you'd want to steer well clear of. |

I went to the Quit Learning HQ in DF once (about 3 years ago). I talked to some guy, he was in charge of hiring. He said I could work at QT with just a tourist card and get paid under the table. When I called back six months later, he was gone. The new HR person can't speak English and she says a foreign teacher has to have a FM-3 authorized to work for QT. When I asked her if they provide a letter to take to immigration, they said no. All foreigners need to have a FM-3 that authorizes them to work for quit learning. OK, how am I supposed to do that if they don't provide a letter for la migra?
This place is a joke. Do the math. The pay comes out to something like 50 pesos per hour. And you have to work from 6am to 10pm and all day on Saturday. Stay away! |

Two years ago when I first blew into town, I checked into Quick Learnings school in Zona Rosa. I walked in without an appointment to ask someone who I should speak to about arranging one.
I spoke to 3 Mexican teachers, all of whom had trouble understanding spoken English. I quickly realized the futility of proceeding. |

About 4 years I answered one of their ads in the paper and went in for an interview. There were at least 20 to 30 others there at the same time. Had to take some tests, fill out a bunch of forms in Spanish, was told the "paid" training session lasted about a month (or a couple weeks, I don't remember)....the pay was minimal for training ($500 a week? don't remember) and lasted pretty much all day almost every day of the week. I got interviewed in Spanish, which included a lot of personal and somewhat invasive questions that had nothing to do with the job. In the end they did not accept me for the training session because they couldn't get a hold of my references...which were all located in the U.S. at the time.
Since then I've heard that the high pay they quote is contingent on you being able to sell the course and retain or get more students. You work pretty much the whole day and Saturdays, with a couple hours here or there for breaks. You have to follow their rigid method and are monitored by camera while you are teaching. You have to attend mandatory and unpaid meetings and other types of sessions weekly. And the last rumor I heard about them is that the owner is some kind of born-again Christian, and they do a lot of heavy proselytizing.
I'm glad I never got the chance to work with them. |

According to every teacher I've met, and most students who have been unfortunate enough to study there, Quick Learning sucks. Nuf said. |
