Good Evening All,
I have spent the last 4 hours reviewing the posts here in the Costa Rica forums. After a disastrous trip to South Korea (can you say "immigration bribe" class?) my husband and I are now looking into Central American / Caribbean to move to.
I have a Master of Accounting degree and he has a BS and is working on an MA. I have applied to some of the larger MNCs and NGOs in Costa Rica. I see that most people say that it is difficult get a job before you come down there. If we start applying/interviewing now is it possible to have a job lined up for mid-August? Our only sticking point is that we have two young children. Is child care hard to find?
If possible I would be interested in teaching business or accounting classes at a university.
Any information would be helpful.
Regards,
Stacy |

Dear Stacy,
Welcome to the forums first of all. It's a bit slow around here sometimes, that's why it's not always easy to get a decent reply.
The first thing you should know is that the first two weeks of July is a public holiday here in Costa Rica. A rough guesstimate on how long it will take to get a job is difficult, but I have told other people here that it's best to prepare for at least a couple of months of looking. And, as you correctly say, getting a job in CR outside CR is pretty tough.
Child care is not hard to find, depends on the language you need it in though. Finding bilingual, good nannys will probably be tricky, but there are plenty of private kindergartens and similar institutions with German, English and Spanish-speaking staff. I'm not expert on the subject, this is just stuff that I know from walking and bussing around the San Jose area.
I'm not good with the universities here, but some big ones:
- University of Costa Rica
- Interamericana
- Universidad Nacional de Heredia
- ULatina
- Fidelitas
I will also try to see if I can get the number of some people who are running/opening a small private university, and I think they are looking for people like you. Not sure if you need to speak German though. |
