I was contacted by someone who uses gmail about a job there. On their site, they all use maltepe.edu.tr emails. Do you think it was a recruiter who wrote to me?
Anybody happen to know anything about this place? It looks like quite a substantial institution from their website. What's life like in Istanbul? I'm pretty much totally ignorant about Turkey. |

You need to post this on the Turkey branch in the Europe forums.

Oh yes, that's right. Turkey thinks they are in Europe.
Thanks, I didn't even look there. |

You're thinking of .tk which all those scam postings were using for a while.
Actually, he answered that question already. They are the recruiting department at the university and have an email with the university domain(he sent it to me), but found that the gmail solved some problems they were having with opening pdf and word files. |

Thanks, I stand corrected and shall now go forth better informed on the intertubes and domain names (I shall strike .tk off my "suspect" list) |

No No Helen... keep the .tk on your list. That's the bad guys. .tr is Turkey I believe. (I can't understand why we would get confused)

The cat is out of the bag. The university is probably for real. They have an extensive website. The cads making me the offer of 11,000 GBP per month are definitely not for real. Oh, they happen to need a small fee of 1200+ GBP for the visa. |

Surely such a token "investment" in your future earnings ability should not deter you
I love Turkey (the people, the food, the beer, just walking around, etc.) but as with most jobs anywhere in the world - Caveat Emptor - if it sounds Idyllic (and especially if they're asking for $$$ up front) it probably is too good to be true. |

Hey Mojo... I would go back over to your turkey thread and edit the title so that it includes the word "scam."
It looks like these people are now including Turkey in their gambits...
