I has recently been brought to my attention that Oman is on some drug trade route from Europe to Africa. Is this true? Are there tons of drugs being moved through Oman? Does anyone have any information relating to drugs and Oman past or present in any area of the topic? |

Nothing in the drugs trade surprises me any longer. There are drugs being used in Oman just as there is everywhere in the world that there is money to buy them. My students were not terribly good at keeping secret who was using. It certainly wasn't as big of a problem as many countries.
I found Oman to have a quite efficient, well-organized police force, so it would surprise me if it was a major player. But, I expect that its proximity to Pakistan and the main supplier, Afghanistan, would make many of those Dhows transversing the Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, and the Arabian Sea down towards Africa suspect. It would seem illogical to move any drugs 'through' Oman - around it perhaps. A glance at a map would suggest that to me anyway. Nor does it seem logical for drugs going from Europe to Africa to pass through Oman. That would seem a major detour.
In all of my reading about Oman of the past and present, I have never encountered any 'major' links of it to the drugs trade. But, who knows what was on all of those camel caravans that passed through the ancient city of Ubar.

of course there are..but most expats stear clear of
being around them. The laws are extremely tough...and
trafficers recieve the death penalty.
I know some expats who have sent there kids back to Western
countries because the local WASTA kids have been using drooogs to
lure them into a spiders web.
Since most teenagers worldwide feel invinciable..it is not surprising
that they don't realize the seriousness of the penalties.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from them |
