I be lookin' fo a job. Does anyone know of (perhaps even have first hand experience with) some good employers in Xinjiang? Contact info would be greatly welcomed. If it matters, I have a masters in Religious Studies, limited teaching experience, and studied sanskrit grammar with a well known linguist, but have no real language teaching training/experience. |

How about Alaer? It's about 26 hour train ride from Urumqi. It's remote , but the university is decent . You have to be able to tolerate some aloneness. They have a hard time finding foriegners. Let me know if interested. |

Try going to www.anesl.com. Click on the English version. At the top you will see "Province". Scroll down to Xinjiang. At the moment you will see about 4 jobs going in Urumqi city, and some others in smaller more remote parts of the province. Anesl is a recruiter for govt. schools and universities. Its best to call them in Beijing as they don't often reply to email. They then give you the phone number of the person in charge at the school you are interested in. If you get the job, the school pay Anesl a fee of of one month's salary. Most salaries in Xinjiang govt. schools are around 3000 a month.
If you can read Sanskrit, the Urumqi museum would be a good place for you. They have manuscripts written in Prakrit, a form of Sanskrit used about 2000 to 1500 years ago in South Xinjiang, particularly in the Hotan area. |
