Hi, I have found this forum very useful and would really appreciate any advice.
I'm moving to HK at the end of July and have applied to many schools in advance. Worryingly, however, I haven't received a single reply.
I have a CELTA and four year's teaching experience at internationally recognised schools in the UK.
Will it be easier to find work once I'm in Hong Kong? |

Hi,
4 years post CELTA experience should get you a chance at the British Council - it's ok. You won't get onto the better paid NET scheme and many international schools without PGDE/full teacher qualification.
Certainly, you can turn up, try what I'd call the mickey mouse schools, and probably get something in the 15-20K per month range - and have to work quite long and hard hours for it. Although I never fancied trying them, someone mentioned they're quite good for getting to know and socialise with locals. |
