Has anyone had any experience teaching in Kanazawa?

I'll be moving there at the end of this year, and intend to get a job teaching English (first time). I've heard many mixed opinions as to the job market in Kanazawa, as well as Japan in general, but these have been primarily from people who are not actually in the teaching profession.

Any input would be much appreciated.

I'll corrobarate that second hand from a close friend. There seems to be a large pull south for the young especially to head off for the lights of Nagoya. That may affect the eikaiwa market for example.

What line of EFL are you aiming to be in?

Aside from teaching, there is some beautiful scenery up there and tons of snow if you like that sort of thing. Check out this thread for comments in the past about the benefits of living in a built up are v Kanazawa for example which is more rural than other areas.

Well, given my qualifications, or rather lack of, I'm looking into language schools. I'm inclined to apply to smaller schools vs the larger ones, but, that all will of course have to be dealt with only after i get there.

Thanks for the thread.

What you may find there, because of the off-the-beaten-path nature of Kanazawa is that there are plenty of eikaiwa looking for the few foreigners who have settled there. So,this may be in your favour. Obviously, if you are going to come here and walk around then that will make life easier than trying to land a job from abroad specifically in Kanazawa.
